Four Nights of Adventure: BS Creative at La CrosseAF
Four nights. Four venues. Stories from around the world, local filmmaking worth celebrating, and plenty of inspiration to bring back to our own work.
BS Creative was proud to sponsor and attend this year's La Crosse Adventure Films & Festival, a celebration of adventure, documentary filmmaking, and the people who bring stories to life. As a Wisconsin-based, story-first video and audio production company, we spend a lot of time thinking about what makes a story worth telling. Getting to experience so many different approaches to storytelling in one week was a reminder of why we love this work.
Adventure and Storytelling
Night 1: Families in Adventure
I'll admit, I wasn't sure the family theme would be for me. I was happily proven wrong. These films explored family in all its forms, from the people closest to us to our furry companions. A great reminder that adventure isn't limited to a particular place, age, or kind of person. - Sara
Night 2: Storytelling and Shredding
The original plan was to gather outdoors, but the rain had other ideas. Instead, we packed into the Ski Chalet at Mt. La Crosse for a cozy night of films and conversation. Meeting filmmakers and hearing about the work behind their stories is one of the best parts of an event like this. It was great talking with director Mike King who brought Lake Effect, a Michigan ski film about the joys of backyard and midwest adventure, to an evening celebrating storytelling and shredding. - Brett
Night 3: Adventure in the Elements
This night delivered some of our favorite short films, especially the two centered on fire - love the story as fire being part of life and not only destructive. The evening was sponsored by WisCorps and hosted by Paige Manges. It was also a treat to see some of the work we've collaborated on with WisCorps this year celebrated on the big screen. Want to see the WisCorps story we filmed and soundtracked? Check it out! - Sara
Night 4: The Adventure Finale
The final evening brought impressive camera work and big adventures. One standout for us was Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage, a documentary about women over 65 who dive into local ponds to remove garbage. They're helping protect wildlife, including turtles, while staying active and building friendships. It's an unexpected, wonderful reminder that adventure doesn't have an age limit. We also love the visual treatment and spirit of adventure in Good Luck, Kid. Seeing a story from the perspective of a visual storyteller like ourselves, it was hard not to put ourselves in their shoes. - Brett + Sara
Along the way, we also got to celebrate two local film premieres alongside films from across the country and around the world. That mix of local talent and global perspectives made the festival feel especially vibrant.
Proud to Be Part of Wisconsin's Filmmaking Community
We don’t share enough of our own work, and spending four nights absorbing other people’s work (and hearing what they “poured their soul into”) is a different kind of fuel.
Making creative work takes time, collaboration, and a whole lot of energy. It's easy to finish one project and immediately move on to the next without making enough time to experience what other people are creating. It's inspiring to see what happens when a community makes room for creativity.
At BS Creative, we partner with brands and organizations to tell thoughtful stories through video and audio production. We're interested in the people behind the work, the process that makes it possible, and the experiences that give a story meaning.
That's why supporting the La Crosse AF felt like a natural fit. Both founders, Brett and Sara, had the opportunity to attend all four evenings, celebrate fellow storytellers, and support an event that brings the filmmaking community together.
We're grateful to Paige Manges for helping connect us with the festival, and to the WisCorps team for a wonderful year of collaboration. We're also proud to have supported the event as a sponsor.
“BS Creative has been a dream to work with this year! WisCorps has grown tremendously as a program due to their creativity and ability to tell thoughtful, engaging stories!” - Paige Manges | Director of Communications, Central Conservation
